Call for innovative and entrepreneurial students to combat local challenges in Utrecht with the help of open data!
ChangeU is a 16-day virtual hackathon (15 February - 3 March), where students from Utrecht will come together and work on creating innovative and sustainable business ideas. Any student registered to an Utrecht-based institution can join, as an individual or as a team and no experience with either entrepreneurship and/or data is required. The activity will take place in the context of the EU funded IRIS Smart Cities project. In organizing the virtual hackathon, project partners UtrechtInc Students, Utrecht University, Civity, and the Municipality of Utrecht join hands.
A fast growing percentage of the EU population (75%) lives in urban areas, using over 70% of the available energy resources. Increasingly, cities need to provide smart solutions to rapid changes. From energy usage to mobility, health and the job market, or the limited space we are all sharing. From Utrecht to its local neighborhoods - what start-up ideas can make the city smarter and better to live in?
Mission of ChangeU 2021
The mission for ChangeU is to match local challenges of Utrecht residents to Utrecht’s great minds in context of the EU funded IRIS Smart Cities project . With help of readily available open data, ChangeU aims to create solutions that can have lasting impact. Not just on a local scale, but can be replicated to other European cities, that's how to make a scalable start-up!
What are we looking for?
We are looking for business ideas to create impact in the aforementioned areas - using open data that stems from the Municipality of Utrecht and via the City Innovation Platform. The solution must meet the following conditions:
